Dear Susan,
How are you? We just arrived (1) home after our vacation (2) Boston. It was a long journey and it seemed like we were traveling (3) for days! It took longer because there was a detour (4) because the divided highway (5) was closed. We put all our luggage in the trunk (6) of the station wagon (7) and took the freeway (8). It was an expensive trip because it's a turnpike (9) between here and Boston. The only problem happened on an overpass (10), the pavement (11) was so bad we got a flat (12) and had to change one of the tires (13) near Salty Falls. It was dangerous because it happened in the inside lane (14), a long way from the shoulder (15). It was at night, but luckily we had a flashlight (16) in back of (17) the car, so I was able to fix it. A patrolman (18) stopped and helped me. I think that next time I'll use the railroad (19)!
Have you heard the news already (20)? Suzy broke her leg after she dove (21) into the sea. She'll have to stay home (22) for a month to recover. She hates being sick (23) and she's going to get antsy (24) if she has to stay in the apartment (25) all day. Luckily we live on the first floor (26).I tried to persuade her to sit in the yard (27) but she just got pissed (28) with me. When you can, come and visit with her (29).
John's gotten (30) a place at university to study math (31), which is his specialty (32). He starts in the fall (33) and we're proud of him. We could only afford to send him to a public school (34), but he learned (35) a lot there. Last month we went to meet with (36) the faculty (37) at the university he's going to. They looked at me real (38) strange (39) when I told them I was a realtor (40).
We're going to the theater (41) tomorrow, I don't have (42) anything I can wear in my closet (43) so I have to go to a haberdashery (44) downtown (45) to buy some new gray (46) pants (47) and a vest (48) to wear over my shirt.
I have to go downtown (49) now, so I have to finish this letter.
I hope everything's going well for you. Write me (50) soon.
Love,
John.
