Session Three

Look at this dialogue.

 

 

1. Caller wants to book a flight to New York.

 

(A = Person answering the telephone.  = You.

 

A         Hello. International Travel. Mandy speaking.

       Hello. I'd like to book a flight to New York. Could you give me details of the price and availability of flights, please.

A         When would you like to travel?

        On the 15th of December. In the evening if possible.

A         Hold on a moment, please. I'll check on the computer....... Hello?

        Hello.

A         There are two flights on that date with transworld airlines, but I'm afraid they're both fully booked. There's another flight in the morning on worldwide airlines, but that is wait-listed. Do you want me to put you on the list or try another day.

        How much does the flight cost?

A         One-way or return?

        Return.

A         Both Transworld and Worldwide are the same price - $1250. Brazilian Airways is a bit cheaper at $1200 but they only have flights on the 13th and 18th of December.

        Could you try the 13th?

A         One moment, please......Hello? Yes. There are seats available on Brazilian Airways, leaving Rio at 19.30 on the 13th. Would you like to take it?

        Yes, please.

A         Can you give me your name and telephone number. please.

        My name is Mr Frank Williams and my number is 336 129.

A         Your flight is confirmed Mr Williams, on the 13th of December at 19.30 with Brazilian Airways. how would you like to pay for your ticket?

        Do you accept Master Express credit cards?

A         Yes, we do. Just give me the number and expiry date.

        The number is  123 4567 789 and it expires in June 1999.

A         Ok. That's fine Mr Williams. Would you like us to mail your ticket to you, or will you collect it personally.

        Could you mail them, please. My address is Rua Noestranjero, 20. Apartment 61.

A         Certainly. We'll put it in the post tomorrow and you should receive it by the weekend.

        Thank you very much.

A         It's a pleasure. Goodbye Mr. Williams.
