In my opinion, successful cooking involves the "the three 'Ts'" - 

Timing (the ingredients should be cooked in the correct order so that everything is ready at the same time).

Taste (the use of herbs and spices)

Tonality (a dish which is colourful will be more 'mouthwatering')
