Welcome back!
Two of Viv's ex-students, Beatriz and Vanessa, are going to re-start classes in January.
Good luck!
Juliana has suspended her English course and Viv wishes her the best of luck for the future. Viv also wishes the best for Andrea, Lucimar and Marina.
Happy birthday!
A late happy birthday to Nara (the 20th) and Bia (the 25th). Birthday wishes also go to Monique (17 Feb.), Simara (4 Mar.) and Maira (28 Mar.). Isabela will celebrate her birthday on the 21st April and Cleo on the 4th of May.
Cost of classes
To cover inflation in the previous year (6%), Viv usually adjusts the cost of his classes in January. This year there will only be a one Real rise, so in February, (contact Viv using the guest book for details of prices and conditions for classes).
Holidays
The Carnival holiday will be from the 1st to the 7th of March. In April, Easter and Tiradentes will mean that Viv won't be working from the 18th to the 22nd, and there will also be a long weekend from the first to the fourth of May.
Course news
Everyone will have a vocabulary test in February. if you find it difficult to learn the words in your notebook, bring your database CDROM, and Viv will give you a copy of the latest versions of your Vocab and Back of Notebook Databases. These can be installed on your computer and you can add words and test those already there. There will be another back of notebook test in March, and it will be time to eliminate your past 'Viv's angry page expressions'. Everyone will do a jigsaw song activity and play a game in the next few months.
Teacher's tips
Slowly but surely, smart phones are replacing e-mail as a form of communication. When you send Viv a message using your mobile phone, please check the spelling and grammar before you send the message. As you probably know, Viv keeps all the messages he receives that have mistakes, and we correct them in his 'past e-mail activity'. If you don't want to have lots and lots of messages to correct in future, just check what you have typed on your phone, before you send the message.
Student of the month
Viv's student of the month for this edition of the Newsletter is Isabela Viera. She started classes with Viv in December 2011 before a six-month break while she did a course in Holland. Since then she has worked hard on improving her English and her class attendance has been good even though it's difficult for her to arrive on time because of her job. Both her writing and speaking have improved a lot. Well done, Isabela!
