Welcome!
A warm welcome to Amanda, who started classes in May.
Welcome back!
It's great to see Maira again after the two year break in classes.
Good luck!
Viv would like to wish the best of luck for the future to Bianca and Renata.
Congratulations!
Well done to Mariane, who has successfully passed the elementary level of English. She worked very hard and scored over 90% in her last two progress tests!
Happy birthday!
A late 'happy birthday' to Mariane (17th Aug) and Bruna (1st Sept). Birthday greetings also go to Luciana (4 Sept), Nanda F (8th Sept) and Beatriz (26th Sept). Two of Viv's students celebrate their birthdays in October: Marcele (10th) and Amanda (23rd) and I'd also like to wish Roberta a happy birthday for the 8th of January.
Holidays
Viv will not be working on the 7th and 8th of September due to the Independence Day holiday. In October, there will be a holiday on the 12th and 13th of October (Our Lady of Aparecida), and in November on the 2nd and 3rd (Remembrance Day) and the 15th, 16th and 17th (Proclamation of the Republic Day). Viv's Christmas holiday this year will be from the 23rd of December until the 6th of January.
Course news
Viv bought two 'knight' pencil sharpeners (Arthur and Lancelot) from a castle near his mum's house in England (you can see some photos of this castle on Viv's Facebook page). Both of these beautiful little statues are prizes for the top score in the notebook tests. In order to be fair, Viv multiplied your test score by a percentage of the number of hours you've been using the same notebook, so that students with more to learn get a higher score than those with relatively new notebooks. Bia Revila won Arthur in the back of notebook tests last month, and Lancelot will be the prize in the vocabulary tests in September. Bia won't be able to win both Arthur and Lancelot, so I'll find an alternative prize for her if she comes top, and the student in second place will win Lancelot.
I've put a list of back of notebook test results used to calculate the prize on page two of this edition, along with a photo of 'Lancelot'. :-)
If you would like a copy of the latest version of your Notebook Databases, just bring your Database CD-ROM and Viv will make you a copy and show you how to install it.
Student of the month
Viv's 'student of the month' for this edition is Fernanda Carvalho. She started classes at the intermediate level in January 2011 and has worked hard on improving her English since then. It's very gratifying to see that after a lot of hard work and a concentrated effort to improve her English, as each month goes by, Fernanda's spoken and written English has got better and better.
