Welcome!

Viv would like to welcome Lilian, who started classes in October last year.

Congratulations!

Claudia completed the upper-intermediate level of English successfully and Viv wishes her the best of luck in her university course in Europe.

Good luck!

The best of luck for the future to Joana Dale and Andrea Achoa, who have terminated their English courses.

Happy Birthday!

A late 'happy birthday' to Roberta, who celebrated this special day on the 8th January. Birthday greetings also go to Nara (20th Jan.), Bia (25th Jan.), Cristiane (1st March), Luciana P (22nd April) and Cleo (4th May).

Holidays

Viv will not be working on St. Sebastian's Day (20th January) and the Carnival holiday will be from the 4th to the 11th of March. This year, Tiradentes and Easter  fall in the same week, so there will be no classes on the 21st, 22nd and 23rd of April.

Cost of classes

Viv's rent went up by R$300 last year, so he is forced to increase the cost of classes. From February the price per hour will be (contact Viv for details), an increase of just one real per hour.

Course news

Everyone will be doing a vocabulary test in January. In order to help students who have hundreds of words in their vocabulary notebooks, Viv may tell you that odd or even pages will be tested, starting at either the front or back of your vocabulary section. This is designed to make sure all the words in your notebook are revised in one of the three vocab. tests per year. Don't forget that the 'numbers, time, dates and prices' section of your vocabulary notes is  NOT included in this indication. Viv can ask you any of the expressions in your numbers section from any page.

In February there will be a back of notebook test and your "Viv's angry pages" expressions will be eliminated.

Viv's library and DVD club

Viv is always really happy when his students borrow books to read at home. Reading is the most efficient way to revise the vocabulary and grammar you study in class. However, over the years Viv's library keeps getting smaller and he has to buy new books. From now on, you can keep a book for one month and after this period, there will be a fine of R$5 per week for overdue books. This fine will be added to your monthly bill for classes. You can keep individual DVDs for 2 weeks and box sets for one month. After this time, the same system of fines will take place. This idea isn't original, I've just copied it from your local library and Blockbuster.

Student of the month

My student of the month for this edition is Fernanda Facury, who has made tremendous progress since starting classes.

How am I doing?

If you are one of Viv's current students, you can compare your vocab. and BON test results for last year with his other students on page two of this edition.
