Welcome!
A warm welcome to Ana Beatriz and Flavia, who
have recently started classes with Viv.
Welcome back!
Viv is happy to see Claudia again, who has
returned to finish the upper-intermediate level.
Happy birthday!
I would like to wish Nara and Bia a very happy
birthday for the 20th and 25th of January.
Best wishes too, go to Claudia (16th Feb.) and Fernanda
and Maira (14th & 29th March). In April, two of Viv's students celebrate
their birthdays: Luciana (22nd) and Jana (31st).
Holidays
Viv will not be working on the 20th of January
(the Patron Saint of Rio).
In February, there will be no classes from the
14th to the 22nd due to the Carnival and a visit from Viv's sister-in-law.
In April he won't be working on the 2nd and 3rd
(Easter) or from the 21st to the 24th (Tiradentes). The first of May will be on
a Saturday, so this day will also be a holiday from English classes.
Cost of classes
Every year Viv has to evaluate the price he
charges for classes based on the previous year's inflation. As a result, from
February, Viv will be charging (contact Viv for details) per hour.
Course news
The winners of the English bookmarks for the
best book compositions were Juliana Andrade and Viviane. The UK pen winners for
the best scores in the vocabulary tests in September last year were: Agatha, Juliana
Andrade, Juliana Santos, Lucimar, Marcelle and Marliana.
Viv would like to give special thanks to
Fernanda and Nara for bringing back English newspapers from their trips to
Europe. These are very useful to my students as an excellent opportunity to
work with real modern English. If you're a student and haven't done Viv's
newspaper activity yet, you will soon.
In the first few months of 2010, Viv's students
will have a vocabulary test in January and another back of notebook test in
February.
The number of visitors to Viv's web site has increased
by three times in last three years. In March, students will check and update
their personal web page profiles, or create them if this hasn't been done yet (optional activity).
Student of the month
Viv's student of the month for the first
edition of the Newsletter year is Tita Barbosa. She started classes with Viv at
the intermediate level in January 2008, and since then her English has improved
considerably and she is now able to speak and write much more accurately than
she could before. Well done Tita!!!!
Features
At the beginning of every year Viv prepares a
table with his students' vocabulary and back of notebook test results in the
previous year. This allows his students to compare their test results with
other students and review their progress through the year. If there are more
'F's than green scores, you need to revise harder!!!
