Welcome!

Viv would like to welcome Claudia, Juliana Martins,  Ludmila and Monica, who have started English courses with Viv since the last Newsletter.

Welcome back!

A warm welcome also goes to Marcia, who re-started her English course after a break of  nearly two years.

Good luck!

The best of luck to Andrea, who will soon be going to live and work in England, and to Juliana Caetano who will  finish the upper-intermediate level and have a baby. Viv also wishes good luck to Clarissa and Nara, who have terminated their English courses.

Happy Birthday!

A late 'happy birthday' to Elaine, whose birthday was on the 14th of May. Viv would also like to give birthday greetings to Magda (27 May), Juliana Santos (7 June) and Michelle (28 July).  Last but not least, Viv will be celebrating his birthday on the fifth of June.

Holidays

The Corpus Christi holiday will be on Thursday the seventh of June this year. Viv will not be working on this day. If you are planning to take a long weekend, let Viv know in advance because he will be teaching that weekend.

The Pan-american games starts in July and Viv will take a two-week holiday while the games are on in Rio. This holiday will be from the 6th to the 20th of July.

Course news

All Viv's students will have a vocabulary test in June and will do the past-e-mail activity in July. In August it will be time for everyone to do another back of notebook test.

Viv has now completed a help file for his BON Database (back of notebook). If you would like copies of this database and your Vocabulary Database, just bring a blank cd-rom to class and Viv will copy the latest version of your databases to this cd. The best type of cd-rom is a re-writable cd. These have 'CD-RW' on them and are a bit more expensive than 'CD-R' disks, but with this type of cd you can use it over and over again. Most of the stationery shops in Gavea (papelarias) sell both types of blank cd-roms.

Don't forget that if you'd like a copy of the songs you've done exercises on in class, again, just bring Viv a blank cd-rom (CD-R) and he'll record you a cd you can use on any cd player. However, it's best if you've done at least 12 song exercises in class to be worth recording a cd.

Student of the month

Viv's student of the month for this edition is Elaine Bayma, who started classes with Viv in August 1999 at the intermediate level. After a year spent in France she passed the Cambridge First Certificate in 2005 and is now preparing for the Cambridge Advanced Examination.
