Welcome!
A warm welcome to Marcia Chebar, who started classes in February. Viv would also like to welcome Michelle, who has recently started a course at the intermediate level.
Congratulations!!!!
Both Elaine and Melissa, who took the Cambridge First Certificate Examination last December, passed. This means that since he started teaching in Rio, all of his students who have taken the Cambridge Advanced and FCE exams have passed and now have an internationally recognised language qualification. I'll keep my fingers crossed that this continues! :-))
Good luck
Melissa has suspended classes because she is going to have a baby later this year. The teacher wishes her the best of luck for the future.
Happy Birthday!
A happy, happy birthday to Isabel for the 8th of April. In May four of Viv's students will be celebrating their birthdays: Marcela (the 8th), Elaine (the 14th), Magda (the 27th) and Tatiana (the 30th). I hope that everyone has a nice day on their birthday and that the year brings happiness and success.
Holidays
If you have classes on Fridays or Saturdays, it will be difficult to make much progress in April. Viv won't be working at Easter (the 14th -16th of April). Furthermore, Tiradentes falls on the 21st of April, a Friday, but if you aren't taking a long weekend, just let Viv know because he will be teaching normally on this day and the 22nd. One week later, Monday the 1st is also a holiday and Viv will be on holiday both on this day and the Saturday before (the 28th of April).
Course News
Everyone will be having a vocabulary test in the next two weeks and after that it will be time to correct any past e-mail messages that have mistakes in them. In May Viv is going to develop a reading activity for all his students based on authentic reading material.
Homework (again)!
As everyone should know, completing homework isn't optional for Viv's students!
However, some students find it difficult to complete a composition or difficult reading activity on time. When homework hasn't been completed, Viv will highlight the exercise in your notebook and on his computer in red. When this happens, if the exercise hasn't been completed or isn't brought to the next class, the class will be cancelled and charged in full. Classes cancelled for this reason cannot be transferred to another day. There will be no exceptions to this rule. For information on homework, see Viv's web site (The teacher / conditions for classes).
How am I doing?
If you've been having classes for some time, you'll be able to evaluate your progress in Viv's tests by comparing your results with his other students. The 'features' section this month has everyone's vocab. and back of notebook test results for 2005.
