Welcome!

Viv would like to welcome three new students: Fernanda Drummond, Juliana Caetano and Maria Duarte who have recently started classes.

Good luck!

I wish Danusa Fernandes the best of luck. She has finished an advanced level course and will be going to spend a year living in France.

Congratulations!

Two more students have been successful in passing from one level of English to the next. Beatriz Revilla, my student of the month in the last edition, passed the pre-intermediate end of course test.

Patricia Alpande passed the intermediate level and will now be preparing to take the Cambridge First Certificate Examination.

Happy Birthday!

Only two of Viv's students will be celebrating their birthdays in the next two months. I wish a happy birthday to Verusya for the 24th of September, and also to Cristina, whose birthday is on the 22nd of October.

Holidays!

Viv won't be taking a month off work this year, but he will be having a short break. There won't be any classes on the fourth of September, and Viv will only start teaching again on the 8th of September.

Please don't forget to give Viv at least a month's advanced warning if you need to suspend classes for a month when you go on holiday. Telling me in advance gives me the opportunity to offer your time to someone else while you are away. Don't worry though, I will guarantee your space in my timetable while you are away.

Super Sujou!

The internet reading activity mentioned in the June edition of the Newsletter revealed that several of Viv's students were using the following technique to escape from difficult homework exercises: do nothing and hope Viv will forget or get tired of asking for the exercise!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If you look at the bills Viv sends you by e-mail, you will now see any homework that hasn't been completed highlighted in bold. If several weeks pass and this work still hasn't been completed, then the colour will change to red. When an exercise is highlighted in red, it means that failure to complete it will result in your class being cancelled when you arrive for your class. You will still have to pay for this cancelled class as the cancellation was your own responsibility. A list of Viv's rules for homework can be found on page 2 of Edition 33 of the Newsletter.

Student of the month

My student of the month for August is Danusa Fernandes mentioned at the beginning of this edition. When Danusa got confirmation that she would finish work a month before going abroad, and accepted Viv's offer of a 'mini-intensive' course to try to finish the advanced level course she started in October 2002. She attended classes five days per week and has finished the level. This month's edition features one of Danusa's compositions.
