Happy
Birthday!
November and December are months with lots of birthdays. In November I wish a happy birthday to Melissa (11th), Junior (15th), Ana (20th) and Marliana (21st). In December, birthday greetings to Vanessa (9th) and Paula G. (27th).
Welcome!
Viv would like to welcome Ana Paula, Cristiana and Danusa who have recently started classes.
Good luck!
I wish Cristina Turnes the best of luck for the future. It was a pleasure working with her and a pity that she was unable to dedicate enough time to improving her English.
What's
new?
Viv now has a video camera, so don't be surprised if you are recorded speaking during your class. Video is an excellent way for you to lose your shyness in speaking English, and gives you the opportunity to see as well as hear yourself speaking.
If you would like a copy of videos done in class, just bring Viv a blank cd-rom and he'll record it for you.
Holidays
Viv will not be working on the second of November, or during the long weekend of the 15th and 16th of November.
What's new
on the web?
Do you use the internet regularly? If so, do you get fed up with the pop up windows and annoying advertisements which infest lots of sites? If the answer to both these questions is 'yes', Viv has the answer:
Webwasher is a program which automatically blocks pop up windows and removes most ads. without stopping you surf the internet freely.
What's more, it's free! It can be downloaded from:
www.webwasher.com
Viv's web
site
I have recently put the first few units of my 'Giving presentations in English' course on the web site. It can be found under 'practice your English /Viv's worksheets / professional worksheets'. The three photos taken at Viv's birthday drink will be added to the photo section at the end of October. The photo section is under 'the teacher' link.
Election
news
Thank you to everyone who has done a biography of a presidential candidate. If you still haven't decided who to vote for, I've put biographies on the two remaining candidates on the back of this Newsletter. 'Lula' was written by Vanessa Macedo who is at the end of the pre-intermediate level, and 'Serra' was written by Isabel Faria, who is now at intermediate level. Both students started their courses with Viv in March 2001. All final drafts sent to Viv by e-mail will be put on the web site.
Student of
the month
My student of the month of this edition is Sara Loureiro, who is a teacher trainer. She started her course in August 2001 and has made exceptional progress at the upper-intermediate level. She has come top in the last three vocab. tests with an average of 18 out of 20. Well done!
