Happy Birthday!
Birthday greetings to Barbara (8th Oct.) and to Melissa, Junior and Marliana whose birthdays are on the 11th, 15th and 21st of November.
Welcome!
A warm welcome to Paula and Sara who have recently started courses with Viv.
Congratulations!
Congratulations are in order for three of my students who have successfully completed the following levels:
Ricardo - Pre-intermediate
Elaine - Intermediate
Guilherme - Advanced
It's takes high motivation and hard work to reach and then pass an end of course test - WELL DONE!
What's new?
After over eight years living at his current address, unfortunately Viv has been told that the landlord would like the flat back again.
I will have to find somewhere else to live by the end of November, so if you have classes at Viv's, it will mean a change of location. I'll try to find another flat in Leblon if possible, but if not, I may have to move to Gavea or Jardim Botanico. Wherever I move to, I'll try to make sure the location is convenient for my students as well as for me!
Shell
Shell Brasil moves to Barra in mid-October. I'm afraid that I won't be able to guarantee continuing courses there. The traffic there and back is often complicated, and want to avoid the situation where I spend more time travelling to and from classes than I do teaching them.
The final decision will have to wait until I have resolved where I will be moving to.
Contacting Viv
If you try to call Viv and find his phone engaged, it probably means that he is using the internet. I have now got a mobile phone, which you can use in this case. You'll be informed of the number by e-mail.
What's new on the web?
As promised in the last newsletter, Viv has put links to sites with English jokes on his site (www.vivquarry.com). Just follow the link for 'Language tools and web site maps'.
I've also up-dated the internet practice sites and added a page for past sites. On this page (archive sites), you'll find links to various English on-line newspapers and a worksheet with information and exercises.
A composition by Samara has been added to 'students' work' and I've added more of my grammar worksheets (phrasal verbs, punctuation and the present perfect).
Student news
If you read the Globo newspaper, look out for articles written by Vanessa Rodrigues, who has had various articles published . She has been having classes with Viv since March this year and is making excellent progress.
Features
I've put a selection of jokes from the site mentioned in the previous section. If you have heard any good English jokes, send them to Viv and I'll put them on the web in future.
